· Job Summary · The Sr. Technical Writer fulfills the current role of a Technical writer and in addition acts as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) of assigned area or team of writers, ensures adherence to standards, conducts peer reviews, and represents Maintenance Publications in procedural meetings, planning meetings, Quality Audit actions, and at Aviation Industry Conferences and workshops. |
· Responsibilities · Acts as subject matter expert (SME) in assigned area to create, write, revise, and edit maintenance publications, documents, and work instructions ensuring accuracy to technical source documents, SWA engineered changes, regulatory, and maintenance program requirements · Conducts on-the-job (OJT) and classroom training and Peer Reviews changes written by Technical Writers, contractors, and outside service provider-based writers · Performs Safety Risk Management of revisions or procedure changes as required · Ensures work assigned is processed within required time-frame and monitors change request processes through to completion · May assign work to writers · Processes Boeing and other OEM revisions to Aircraft Maintenance Manuals, Illustrated Parts Catalogs, Fault Isolation manuals, Wiring Diagram manuals, and other publications and documents; reconciling the differences with SWA engineered changes and managing the approvals necessary for publication · Receives and/or submits, and processes SWA document change requests for Maintenance Publications and documents, and Submits Boeing Service Requests to correct Boeing errors · Maintains historical record of revisions, network library and published documents, and conducts required audits and computer-based data-entry · Interfaces with various departments including Production AMTs and Inspectors, Fleet Leads, Engineering, Planning, Regulatory, and Quality Assurance, to analyze and improve publications, documents and processes · Assists and stands in for Tech Docs Supervisor or Manager Maintenance Publications when absent and performs other publications or project duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager · Must be able to meet any physical ability requirements listed on this description · May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders |
· Knowledge, Skills and Abilities · Must have excellent research, writing, and verbal communication and presentation skills · Must be able to read and understand aircraft maintenance manuals, work instructions, policy and regulatory publications · Must possess excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability and desire to deal with technology concepts · Must be able and willing to travel to SWA maintenance stations and/or represent SWA at industry meetings and conferences · Must meet the Southwest Airlines Expectations for All Employees · Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines · Advanced writing and editing skills using XML or SGML based authoring software · Advanced organizational and prioritization skills and ability to complete multiple tasks and projects under tight deadlines · Advanced computer skills and ability to learn new programs quickly · Advanced research and troubleshooting skills, verbal communication and presentation skills |
